VRoid Resources!

These are VRoid focused as I'm a VRoid vtuber, but I'll keep updating this as I go!

Get those references prepped!

If you're super duper new to making a VRoid model, it can really help your flow to start with a reference, even a simple idea counts! Not sure where to start at all? I cover a bit of that on the Cheap Vtubing page!

Surcen's reference plugin: A plug-and-play tool for adding a reference to VRoid Studio, and it works with the current patch! Installation was pretty quick, and I'm still getting used to it for references over VRoidXY but it's been solid so far.

VRoidXY plugin: VRoidXY is still the gold standard for being able to edit your model and textures side by side in Photoshop or Clip Studio Paint, and its reference system is solid, but I've sadly been noticing more tech issues over time since you have to use VRoid Studio 1.26 or older. I'm hopeful that there's a way to update it, or that VRoid Studio will just offer this in an update directly, but as of right now there's no true replacement for VRoidXY.

Make your model!

Nervous about working on the face, or new to digital art, or both? Try out VTanjo's tutorial! (VTanjo covers a lot on intro body texturing, it can really help if you're stuck!)

Interested in making a plus-sized model, feeling limited by VRoid's body options? Crowe Create's got you covered! (Note that this can require advanced work in Blender, it depends on your goals!)

This is probably the best intro tutorial series I've found on hair texturing, including working through going past max on the sliders and some cool effects you can do that way! It's likely too thorough for some folks, but still worth checking out!

Want a shorter but still thorough intro to VRoid hair? Kariha's got you covered! (And her speedmakes are super helpful to learn from!)

This video single-handedly got my brain around the idea of making curls, it's so cool!

Interested in making bantu knots, afros, or other Black hairstyles in VRoid? Chibi Rina's got you covered, this video's part of a whole playlist! (Most are older at this point but they'll get you through the concepts!)

Have an intro to hair accessories for a bit of extra flair! (There's a fair argument that for more complex accessories you should build them in Blender, as they can make the file huge, but for hair clips might as well use VRoid Studio!)

Lady Aska's video covers a lot of the basics of VRoid clothing textures, including skin masks!

While they're speedmakes and not tutorials, 39studio's one of the best I've found for understanding how to draw textures on a VRoid model, like this apron is so cool!

Curious about BOOTH, maybe you've heard folks mention it but you're not sure where to start or where even to look? (Or honestly wondering if it's a scam?) Syafire's video covers looking on the site for free/cheap VRoid options! (As a heads up BOOTH items can be *very* NSFW, so definitely search carefully!)

Need some tracking support?

VMagicMirror: Since I get asked a lot of questions around how to stream as a VRoid vtuber without a camera, VMagicMirror is the way to go! You can stream with or without a webcam, and it's surprisingly versatile! This video's how I learned about it, but there are more recent resources out there!

Toggles and advanced tech!

Lady Aska's tutorials are some of the clearest for walking you step by step through Unity work when you're ready for it! This video covers clothing toggles!

Suvidriel, the creator of VNyan, not only has a ton of VNyan tutorials, but she also covers a lot of VRoid physics and VSeeFace tutorials!

Curious about Warudo, or your tracking in VNyan's not quite right? Kana Fuyuko's likely got a tutorial for that!
