Moon House Tea Recipes!

Tuesday and I get regularly asked about our tea preferences, and we mainly make tea recipes, like chai and London Fogs! So this is our online 'recipe book'!

Some tea notes first:

  • Tea quality, milk, and sugar all matter in tea recipes, so expect to tweak the recipes to your needs and ingredients!
  • We drink ~50% sugar in our boba orders if that helps you think about how we think about sugar.
  • CTC and looseleaf are different types of looseleaf tea. CTC refers to 'cut-tear-curl' and makes for Very Stronk Tea.

Where we buy tea!

  • Diaspora Co.: They make both a solid masala chai and chai masala (or masala spice blend with or without tea added)! We use their masala chai for low spoons chai days, and their CTC Assam for chai!
  • Miro Tea: We like their Harmutty Assam!
  • Smith Tea: A Portland-based maker with a nice Earl Grey for London Fogs! (And we can sometimes pick it up at Costco!)

The Tea Recipes!

  • London Fogs and Assam Tea Lattes!: Use Earl Grey to get a London Fog, and Assam or black tea for a black tea latte! We halve the sugar and up to double the vanilla depending on the day!
  • Milk tea!: Our Moon House milk tea is based on this recipe, but we've modified it a ton over the years to suit our needs. It's still a great base to start from!
  • Cold brew tea!: This article is more a discussion than a recipe, but it's super easy and so nice in the summer to make tea in the morning and have it ready in the afternoon!
  • Our chai recipe is the video below by Chetna Makan! We make Diaspora Co's masala chai on low spoons days, and Chetna Makan's recipe when we're up for more of a tea process. Both are great!

And as a bonus, we occasionally make this Korean style milk tea, which we affectionately call The Beast because it is *stronk*. Expect to heavily modify the recipe as it's very sweet and very intense for us, but it's really fun when we're up for it!
